Have you ever had the longing feeling that you haven’t found your calling? Like there’s more you can succeed at? But you’re not sure what that is or where to start? I recently came to the realization that I didn’t have to pick between my two major passions; my love for decorating, renovating, and styling homes and my coaching. I know that might not make sense – how does interior decorating combine with personal coaching? (Ha, how does it not?) What I realized is how the space that you surround yourself with influences your drive, mood, relationships, and day-to-day behaviors. Finding My Own is not only a way to combine these two things but a company founded on helping others come to the realization that changing their spaces can also change their life.
Launching this business is taking a big risk. It’s uncomfortable and uncertain. One of the key lessons I’ve learned is that it’s not a bad thing to lean into the fear of the unknown and to stop letting my mind control my heart. As Brené Brown says, “Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome. Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our greatest measure of courage.” Uncertainty is and should be uncomfortable. But through Finding My Own, I’m hoping to inspire those around me to live authentically into their talents.
So how do you lean into this discomfort?
You Jump.
First, you should ask yourself some questions. Start this process by looking inwards and taking a moment to reflect on what’s making you uncomfortable.
Where are you noticing discomfort?
What is it about it that’s holding you back?
Fear of criticism, fear of rejection, fear of judgement, fear of standing out?
What changes can you make?
Then ask yourself this: What small thing can you do to keep yourself moving forward and overcome it? Instead of listening to the voice in your head, listen to what your heart is telling you to do. We live in a world where what might be perceived as failure and the reality of things not always going your way, is actually what stimulates growth. Whether it’s a mental acceptance that you can start your own business or taking the first steps to try something new, signing up for a class, etc., real change starts with a change in mindset.
If even a physical action seems daunting, try and flip the wording of your internal dialogue. I can’t do this becomes I can and I will try this. One small step can cause the entire system to change. Finding your own doesn’t have to be a broad and bold career change, but leaning into something you love and pursuing what makes you, you.
For me, this was taking a room from my childhood home that I spent many days curled up on the sofa, and making it my own. Blue was more my color than red, so we took the existing framework and put my unique twist on it. Where do you sacrifice your authenticity out of fear?
Finding My Own is a business that supports you while you live into your authentic self. I discovered the power of leaning into the discomfort and I want to motivate others to do the same. I love coaching, interior decorating, and supporting others. For further information reach me here.
